On-Site At Sabal Beach

Kayak
Two ocean kayaks are available for guest use. As sit-on-top kayaks they are easily maneuvered so whether a novice or pro you will be able to handle yourself on a calm day. Take one out just for the fun of it, paddle out to Sunken Caye to snorkel or fish as you desire.

Fish
Whether from the dock, shore or a kayak you can always fish at Sabal Beach. We have a few spin casters and hand-lines for fun but you will need to bring your own tackle. Serious fishers will want to bring the specific equipment they prefer. Fishing from shore or dock does not require a permit. On the water a permit is legally required, can be purchased online and is $10/day.

Snorkel
Three-quarters of a mile offshore from Sabal Beach lies Sunken Caye. Grab a kayak, paddle out with your gear and you are always sure to see something interesting. This spot does not compare to snorkeling the reef but on a calm day is nice, it is free and no planning is required.

Nothing At All
It may seem obvious but don’t forget to take some time and relax. There is something truly hypnotic about listening to the wind in the palms and the waves breaking on shore. Having time to truly do nothing with no distractions and just enjoy being is a rarity in today’s world not to be overlooked.

Birding
We are extremely fortunate to have a plethora of native and transient birds at Sabal Beach. If you are an ornithologist or just enjoy birding you will truly enjoy yourself here. Osprey, Hawks, Frigates, Heron, Egrets, Pelicans, etc. abound and we have even spotted a Jabiru stork on property!

Beach Combing / Walking
We have no neighbors to the north for miles and only a few to the south. In all you can walk nearly twelve miles of beach and come across no more than a handful of houses. The effect of having such an expanse of nature to yourself is one that all of our guests have enjoyed and there is always something new to explore along the shore.
Tours in the Vicinity of Sabal Beach

Reef Snorkel or Dive
Belize boasts the second largest barrier reef in the world and is an amazing spot to dive and / or snorkel. Depart directly from our dock on a private boat with experienced and licensed local guides and explore a totally different world underwater. If there is one thing to do in Belize this is it!

Monkey River Tour
Boat up river as the animals, birds and reptiles are starting their day. This is a great way to see wildlife that you would never easily see otherwise all from the comfort of your padded seat! Disembark, search for Howler Monkeys and explore the jungle prior to boating back down river and lunching in Monkey River Town.

Fly-Fishing
Belize offers world-class salt water fly-fishing and the south boasts some of the best, and least frequented, flats that exist. Combined with the rivers in the area you can try for a Grand Slam (Tarpon, Bonefish and Permit in one day) or focus on the species you prefer.

Belizean Cooking Class
Want to learn to make coconut oil by hand, Johnny Cakes on a fire hearth or a typical Belizean meal? The women’s group in Punta Negra Village will teach you the true art of Belizean cooking. More than just a chance to learn new recipes this is a glimpse into Belizean culture and with lunch as the bonus it is not to be missed.

Fishing Charter
While many enjoy catch and release some anglers want to eat their catch. We can arrange a chartered fishing trip in a private boat to suit your desires and experience. Anything from a fun morning on the water to a serious day of deep sea fishing outside the reef.

Lunch at Punta Negra
Like to eat but not cook? Walk down the beach to the restaurant in Punta Negra Village and enjoy one of the best meals you will have in Belize. As the restaurant only opens when expecting guests you can be assured that everything is made to order from scratch just for you.

Caye Snorkel or Dive
There are hundreds of incredible dive and snorkel spots in southern Belize. Head out in the morning on your private boat with an experienced captain and guide that knows exactly where to go based on the weather that day. If you are at all hesitant about open water this is a nice easy way to gain experience.

Hand Line Fishing by Kayak
Want a truly local experience? Weather permitting Ms. Suzette will lead the way for a kayak based fishing expedition using hand lines. Head out in the morning, fish until the sun gets too hot and if you care to arrange to have your catch prepared for lunch that afternoon at the village restaurant.
Inland Tours
In Belize for more than a short stay and interested in jungle activities? If so consider spending a few nights inland before or after your time with us. We do, however, work with great inland guides and the following are also available directly from Sabal Beach.

Mayan Site Visit
Explore the ancient ruins of Nim Li Punit and Lubaantun. Step back in time, explore a bit of jungle and learn about Mayan culture and civilization. You will boat to Monkey River in the morning, meet your guide and head out by car for the day. A stop at the banana farm on Monkey River road can also be arranged.

Ruin & Cave Adventure
Like to multitask? Visit the Mayan site of Nim Li Punit in the morning and explore Blue Creek cave in the afternoon. This is a more active tour as you access the cave by swimming into the mouth before delving into its depths. Tour is dependent on water levels so not always available in the rainy season.

Wildlife Sanctuary or National Park Trek
Explore Cockscomb Wildlife Sanctuary or Bocawina National Park. Both trips are guided with jungle hikes, in-depth information about the ecosystems and involve either river tubing or hiking to waterfalls and swimming in the pools and will bring you in contact with native wildlife and birds.

Guided Birding Trips
Grab your binoculars and head out with one of Belize’s best birders! Whether an enthusiast or a serious ornithologist you will have a full day in the field with a local expert. Trips can be tailored to your particular interests and seasonally may include Scarlet Macaw and other specific species.
